The city of Sharm El-Sheikh ( meaning Bay of the Sheikh ). It lies on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula , on the coastal strip along the Red Sea. It is on a Promontory overlooking the Straits of Tiran at the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba. Its strategic importance led to its transformation from a fishing village into a major port. It is a significant center for tourism in Egypt. Today, Sharm is the administrative hub of Egypt’s South Sinai Governorate , which includes the smaller coastal towns of Dahab and Nuweiba.

Nearby, most visitors climb the well-worn path to the top of Mount Sinai where Moses is said to have received the 10 Commandments.
The monastery is located 220 km north west Sharm el Sheikh , it is one of the oldest monasteries of Christianity. Catherine saint and virgin was martyred in the early 4th century at the hands of the pagan Emperor Maxentius. Angels transported her body to the highest mountain. in 850 her body was discovered by monks from Sinai Monastery located at the heart of Sinai and at the foot of Mount Moses.
You can see the Burning Bush and a large number of antique works of art: Invaluable icons, carved Doors, old wall paintings & other fine Religious ornaments. The monastery is run by the Greek Orthodox Church. Its rich library houses the world’s second largest collection of religious manuscripts after the Vatican.
